Arsenal Team Spending Spree - What Do We Need? - Arsenal Debate - An Arsenal Forum For All Fans
After a number of years without winning a trophy, it is blatantly clear the Arsenal team need a stronger spine, specifically a new goalkeeper, a defensive midfielder and a centre forward. Yes, recommendations have been put forward by the Arsenal faithful on numerous occasions, but who exactly should we purchase as a means of developing the strength of the squad as a whole? Arsenal Debate would like your honest opinions. Please offer descriptive reasons as to why your choice of players would be most suitable?

Starting from the back, Wenger must admit what everybody else has been saying: neither of his two goalkeepers is good enough for a side with title aspirations. Manuel Almunia is equivalent to a Spurs No 2, while Lukasz Fabianski wouldn’t even make the Spurs youth team.

Quite why Wenger did not sign Hugo Lloris from Nice two years ago is a mystery, especially given the manager’s scouting network in France. Now at Lyon and with his reputation vastly improved given his stupendous performances in the Champions League this year, Lloris would not be cheap but he would suit Arsenal.

Bottom ofAt centre back, Wenger needs a player with a big personality, for example, you look through the Arsenal team and see no natural winners, with the possible exception of Cesc Fabregas. Sol Campbell could provide back-up for another year - though that should mean selling Mikael Silvestre.

Arsenal requires a similarly forceful presence to bolster their midfield, a Gilberto Silva-type player whose experience young players such as Abou Diaby and Alexandre Song would benefit from. The outstanding candidate for me is Scott Parker. His hunger and defensive strength would complement the abilities of Arsenal’s several creative midfielders, too.

Up front Marouane Chamakh could provide the solution to their shortcoming. He is an excellent player and a far better alternative than Nicklas Bendtner who should be no more than a squad player for a side such as Arsenal.

Wenger could have signed Chamakh last summer but chose to wait until now as his contract has expired. It is understandable that Wenger should want to save several million pounds but he cannot afford to continue to be so frugal. If Arsenal is to challenge for the Premier League and the Champions League next season, Wenger must be prepared to spend big in the summers, even if that means overspending on keys players.

If Arsenal was to make an exception for the GK position and sign one on a longer term contract. we all know that keepers mature around their Thirties, which make the Arsenal policy some what redundant regarding keepers.
Buffon would be ideal.
Otherwise Hart would be a better option only because, it would give us time to build a stronger defence and understanding between the players.
Cheillini would be a great addition on the back four, in the CB/L position. He is a strong never say die player.
Ok he can be controvertial with some of his tackles, but he wins balls and has the same type of attitude as Vidic. we need a player with this type of attitude.
Get those two positions right and if the we can afford to develop a DM.
As for Chumakh i just hope he is as good as people believe. Plus the fans are patient with him, not expecting an instant impact on the club. But give him a chance, to grow as a player.
